Data Retention (EN)
Squeezely gives you the ability to manage how long data is stored in your account and on your customers' devices.
This allows you to ensure that you stay within the maximum data storage capacity of your account and communicate transparently to customers after how much time data will be deleted.
Set data retention
Go to settings in your Squeezely account. Here you will find the setting ‘Data Retention'. By default, this is set to '12', which means that profiles which weren’t identified will be deleted after 12 months of inactivity. Unidentified profiles are visitors who do not have an email address or userid stored in the 360-degree profile.
By adjusting this setting, you can determine after how many months of inactivity the data of your visitors will be deleted. If you want to delete data of your identified profiles as well, for example because you have a retention in your privacy statement, you can select 'Also delete identified profiles after data retention period expires'. With this setting every profile and their events will be deleted after the retention period. This is irreversible; once deleted, the data is gone.
Retention events
There are events that are rarely used after a certain period, but they do count for the account usage and can cause more costs if you exceed your maximum GB. You can delete selected events after the merchant retention period.
An example is the PageView. This event contains minimal information, except for the URL. The first couple of months this can be useful to segment on certain (utm) parameters, but looses it’s value after a while. This event is triggered on every page and will cause a lot of storage capacity. You can select events you want to delete for known and active profiles as well, after the retention period. This gives you more control over the storage and costs. When this is set, you will see the deleted events next to the deleted profiles in Data > Data > Deleted data stats:
Events you haven’t selected will not be deleted, of course.
When a profile is in an audience with that event, which exceeds the retention period of the event, the profile will remain in the audience for the remainder of the retention. However when you save or repopulate the audience, the profile will be removed from the audience.
Set Cookie Expiration
By default, the Squeezely 1st party cookies are valid for 30 years. This means that the cookie remains active on the device of your visitors for 30 years, as long as it is not discarded.
Do you want the cookies to expire earlier? Then set your cookie expiration period yourself under settings.
